This historic hillside village, a picturesque hillside village in Andalucía, around 45 minutes’ drive from Granada, is the inspiring location for this creative getaway. Painters of every skill level – even novices – will learn how to plan and create modern art. Part of the schedule will be spent outside, working on guided exercises en plein air. These initial charcoal drawings and watercolour studies will then be developed in the studio, with participants creating several interpretive scenes in acrylic paint to be shown in the village. The group has sole use of the venue, which is set around an open courtyard and has a roof terrace with views over the countryside. The fee covers five days of art instruction; all meals; and an trip to the nearby fortress and other local sights.

This sun-drenched cooking retreat, set on a villa by the river in the central Portuguese region, is draws inspiration from the plant-based cuisine of renowned chefs. This energetic camp is an energizing, inclusive three-day dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The format each day is a party-style warm-up session, then three hour-and-a-half workshops covering different urban dance forms, then an 60-minute freestyle session to show off new moves. Participants are split into groups according to skill level, so it is suitable for those who are completely new to street dance, all the way to experienced performers or teachers. Author and lecturer Greg Mosse runs the daily workshops on this writing retreat. He explores everything from story structure, character development, setting and suspense, to submitting work to agents. A co-host, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host special sessions at the start and finish of the week. The retreat is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the base of the White mountains – 10 one- and two-bedroom cottages surround a central garden with a pool (non-writing partners are encouraged to come along). On the final evening, budding authors mark the occasion with a musical performance in the courtyard and a final meal.

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a wide range of courses on eco-living: from wildlife gardening to upcycling. This weekend course will help participants learn the fundamentals of beekeeping, study the life cycle of honeybees and discover their ecological importance. It is aimed at produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. The weekend is also a chance to de-stress in the centre's carefully maintained forests, which are habitat for wildlife, otters, dormice, bats and uncommon bird species.
