Donald Trump’s corporate entity increased its recruitment of overseas employees on temporary visas this period, while his administration was placing obstacles for other companies attempting to do the same, an analysis published recently claimed.
Based on data from the federal labor department, the business aimed to bring in at least nearly 200 foreign workers in the coming year for temporary positions at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, golf facilities and his Virginia winery.
The number of applications for H-2A and H-2B visas for workers including waitstaff, office assistants, housekeepers, culinary employees and agricultural laborers was the record filed by the company, and increased from over 120 in 2021, when Trump’s first term ended.
It was also the fifth instance in 10 years that the former president had attempted to hire more than 100 overseas workers for seasonal jobs at his Florida resort, according to available data.
The revelation comes amid a crackdown on immigration laws by his administration that has involved the introduction of a substantial charge on skilled worker visas; increased review of the actions of the millions of people who possess US visas; and restrictive new rules for international scholars and journalists.
In total, the business aimed to hire 566 overseas workers over the five years Trump has been in the presidency, from 2017 to 2021 and during 2025.
Significantly, the former president was criticized by certain in the Republican party this week for comments justifying the need for foreign workers when a business was unable to find people with “particular skills” to occupy certain positions.
“You can’t just say a country is coming in, going to invest $10bn to build a facility, and going to take people off an jobless roster who haven’t worked in five years, and they’re going to start making their defense systems. It doesn’t work that effectively,” he stated to a host after it was implied that overseas employees lower the pay of American employees.
The administration refused a request for comment, and the business did not immediately respond to an request for information.
